Cross-promotional matchup is an upgrade at this point, as much as I hate to say that, because Bray is so much better than he’s getting from a creative team that has absolutely no idea how to use him. Plus, Styles is straight-up awesome. October 20, 2017 at 10:24 pm October 20, 2017 at 5:57 pm TheCyberZon Could be a blessing in disguise for Bray given the Sister Abigail angle. A man in custody at the Clark County Jail for his alleged involvement in a series of armed robberies in Vancouver and Portland is now also accused of attacking another inmate.Keith B. Woody Jr., 24, of Portland was back in Superior Court on Friday to face allegations of first-degree assault and possessing a weapon in a correctional institution, court records show.An inmate, Justin Gibson, told officers that he refused to let another inmate borrow his comic books Wednesday night. Woody, who was in a different cell, became upset over the refusal and allegedly threatened to kill Gibson, according to a probable cause affidavit.Shortly before 7 p.m. Thursday, Woody allegedly entered Gibson’s cell carrying an eating utensil with a metal tip attached, the weapon being attached to his right hand with toilet paper, the affidavit states.Woody reportedly swung the weapon at Gibson, causing a scratch near his left eye. The two men began to fight, and Gibson tried to hold down Woody’s hands. Woody freed his right hand and stabbed Gibson in the right side of his forehead, leaving a puncture wound, court records said.
SEATTLE — Ken Shefveland’s body was swollen with cancer, treatment after treatment failing until doctors gambled on a radical approach: They removed some of the Vancouver man’s immune cells, engineered them into cancer assassins and unleashed them into his bloodstream.Immune therapy is the hottest trend in cancer care and this is its next frontier — creating “living drugs” that grow inside the body into an army that seeks and destroys tumors.Looking in the mirror, Shefveland saw “the cancer was just melting away.” A month later doctors at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center couldn’t find any signs of lymphoma in the his body.“Today I find out I’m in full remission — how wonderful is that?” said Shefveland with a wide grin, giving his physician a quick embrace. This experimental therapy marks an entirely new way to treat cancer — if scientists can make it work, safely. Early-stage studies are stirring hope as one-time infusions of supercharged immune cells help a remarkable number of patients with intractable leukemia or lymphoma.
McALLEN, Texas — Taking the shutdown fight to the Mexican border, President Donald Trump edged closer Thursday to declaring a national emergency in an extraordinary end run around Congress to fund his long-promised border wall. Pressure was mounting to find an escape hatch from the three-week impasse that has closed parts of the government, cutting scattered services and leaving hundreds of thousands of workers without pay.Trump, visiting McAllen, Texas, and the Rio Grande to highlight what he says is a crisis of drugs and crime, said that “if for any reason we don’t get this going” — an agreement with House Democrats who have refused to approve the $5.7 billion he demands for the wall — “I will declare a national emergency.”Some 800,000 workers, more than half of them still on the job, were to miss their first paycheck on Friday under the stoppage, and Washington was close to setting a dubious record for the longest government shutdown in the nation’s history. Those markers — along with growing effects to national parks, food inspections and the economy overall — left some Republicans on Capitol Hill increasingly uncomfortable with Trump’s demands.Asked about the plight of those going without pay, the president shifted the focus, saying he felt badly “for people that have family members that have been killed” by criminals who came over the border.Trump was consulting with White House attorneys and allies about using presidential emergency powers to take unilateral action to construct the wall over the objections of Congress. He claimed his lawyers told him the action would withstand legal scrutiny “100 percent.”
A man is in critical condition after a collision just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Maple Tree area.A man driving a red four-door car and a woman driving a black sport-utility vehicle side-swiped each other while driving in opposite directions near Northeast 102nd Avenue and Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, Vancouver firefighter-paramedic Joe Hudson said. The car sustained heavy damage, and the man suffered an arm injury and severe bleeding, he said. The man, who was not identified, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in critical condition, Hudson said. The woman involved was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, he said.
A distracted driver was speeding when she rear-ended another vehicle on Interstate 205, causing a three-vehicle crash, according to Washington State Patrol.Arzoo Ghadami, 25, was cited for driving too fast for conditions, according to a WSP crash memo.Shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday, Ghadami was driving a silver Toyota Camry in the southbound lanes of the freeway near the state Highway 14 exit when she crashed into a gray Subaru Tribeca that had slowed for traffic. Then, a blue Toyota RAV-4 SUV slammed into the back of Ghadami’s car, troopers said.Ghadami “was distracted and exceeding a reasonably safe speed,” troopers said. She was injured in the crash and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center. A hospital spokesperson said Friday that she was treated and released. The other drivers were uninjured.
More than $5.48 million in state grants will support conservation and recreation projects in Clark County, including protecting and restoring habitat for rare plants northwest of Lacamas Lake. The state Recreation and Conservation Funding Board announced Tuesday it has awarded more than $126 million to 333 projects across the state.Clark County’s biggest grant, $3.42 million, is for the state Department of Natural Resources to purchase 315 acres within the Lacamas Prairie Natural Area, which is home to five sensitive plant species and one rare animal species.A project description from the state Recreation and Conservation Office says the area is “threatened by habitat destruction in one of the state’s most rapidly urbanizing counties.”Curt Pavola, DNR’s program manager for natural areas, said his agency currently owns 201 acres in the 1,622-acre area, which was established in 2007.This is the fifth grant DNR has received from the Recreation and Conservation Funding Board to purchase land in the natural area, Pavola said. DNR wants to eventually acquire all land within this and the agency’s other 93 natural areas across the state, he said.“Most of the sites have multiple acquisitions until we deem them completed, filled out to the boundaries,” he said. The Lacamas Prairie Natural Area is different from most other areas because it borders residential neighborhoods to the south, with a small piece falling inside the Camas city limits.
By Sulayman BahTrophies are bestowed not without hard work and Gambian player Demba Savage earned just that over the weekend. The silky forward did not disappoint his fans when the occasion demanded rising to match expectations as he tucked the ball to the back of the net sending the goalkeeper the wrong way securing HJK their second title of the season. Both sides settled on a goalless affair despite going into extra-time and it wasn’t until on penalties that they were separated as HJK grabbed the bragging rights over Inter-Tuku to claim this term’s Finnish Cup with Savage’s final penalty doing the damage. It couldn’t have been a better way to cap off a trophy-laden campaign for the Gambian and his team-mates after they scooped the domestic title even before the league curtain drew shut. The weekend coup adds to Savage’s personal achievements–his first Finnish Cup title, the only cup he hasn’t won before and the only missing gong in his already swelling trophy cabinet. With back-to-back success Demba Savage wouldn’t be lacking suitors should his lucrative four-year contract elapsed at the end of next season. But giving his deserved sudden rise to a revered personality among club fans and HJK board’s desire to retain the Gambian’s services, it will take nothing short of big money for interested clubs to force the capital outfit to part ways with their prized asset.]]>
