Deebo Samuel injury update: 49ers offense takes a hit with WR’s broken foot

first_imgWon’t miss season but expect a stint on PUP.— David J. Chao – ProFootballDoc (@ProFootballDoc) June 18, 2020Same fracture led to Trent Taylor’s surgery last preseason, then ensuing infections sidelined him all season. #49ers need Deebo to heal well for another Super Bowl run— Cam Inman (@CamInman) June 18, 2020According to Healthline, a Jones fracture is “a break between the base and shaft of the fifth metatarsal bone of (the) foot. This is the bone on the outside of the foot, which is connected to the pinkie toe. It’s the most common type of metatarsal fracture.” The site also claims the recovery time for surgery on a Jones fracture is seven weeks or fewer with weight being kept off the injured foot for up to six weeks.Based on a tweet from Samuel himself, it seems he expects to be back on the field in 10 weeks. In that case, he would return before the start of the season.10 weeks I’m back better than the deebo you seen before 🙏🏾— UnoCaptain‼️❌ (@19problemz) June 18, 2020The 49ers and all NFL teams are scheduled to report to training camp late next month, and the league plans to start the regular season on time (Sept. 10) despite coronavirus-related complications.MORE: Why Kyle Shanahan’s extension matters Samuel, who had a team-high five catches for 39 yards against Kansas City in February, also broke a Super Bowl record for rushing yards by a wide receiver with 53 on three carries. If Samuel has to miss an extended amount of regular-season time in 2020, it will be a big blow to an offense that often utilizes misdirection and play-action. The speedy Samuel is a big part of coach Kyle Shanahan’s game planning in that regard. The 49ers did draft Brandon Aiyuk, a similarly built wide receiver, in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft in part to fill the void left by free-agent departure Emmanuel Sanders. Samuel’s injury suggests the Arizona State product might need to be a bigger part of San Francisco’s offense early in the season than initially expected. A player who might have won Super Bowl 54 MVP had the 49ers held off the Chiefs in the fourth quarter of that game could start the 2020 season on the shelf.Deebo Samuel, who as a rookie last season led all San Francisco wide receivers in receptions and receiving yards, suffered a broken foot — specifically, a Jones fracture — during a throwing session Tuesday in Nashville with his teammates, according to The 24-year-old had surgery on his foot Thursday.last_img read more

first_imgPaddy McGrath will be a key man for Ardara tonight as they seek to put local rivals Naomh Conaill to the sword and book their place in the last four of the Donegal SFC.Naomh Conaill face off with bitter rivals Ardara tonight for a coveted spot in the last four of the Donegal SFC.Naomh Conaill and Ardara played out an enthralling quarter-final clash at Tir Chonaill Park on Saturday, but a late, late free from Brendan Nelis secured a relay for Ardara.Ardara had led by five points at one stage in the second-half, but Naomh Conaill inspired by county Anthony Thompson powered back to lead as the clock ticked into injury-time. However, Ardara had the final say, and in doing so forced a replay with their neighbours which takes place tonight at Mac Cumhaill Park, Ballybofey. The prize for the winners is a semi-final showdown with current Donegal SFC holders Glenswilly this weekend. The last time the pair met before this year’s Donegal SFC was in 2009.That game also went to a replay, and in the replay extra-time had to be played to separate the sides. Naomh Conaill eventually edged Ardara out after extra-time, but it was one hell of a battle. You wouldn’t bet against extra-time being required for tonight’s clash between the old rivals.Paddy Campbell’s side will head into tonight’s clash again as slight favourites, Anthony Thompson, Leon Thompson, and Dermot Molloy will all be key players for Naomh Conaill tonight.Kenneth Doherty was the best player on the pitch last Saturday, and Ardara will need him to exert his influence over the game again tonight. While the likes of Paddy McGrath, Gareth Concarr and Martin Shovlin will also be expected to play significant roles. It promises to be another cracking game, and it will be another closely fought affair.Glenties should edge it though, although this game could go to extra-time again.VERDICT – GLENTIES DONEGAL SFC: NAOMH CONAILL AND ARDARA BATTLE IT OUT AGAIN FOR SEMI-FINAL SPOT was last modified: October 22nd, 2014 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:ArdaraDonegal SFCDonegal SFC quarter-finalGAAHome-page SportNaomh ConaillnewsSportlast_img read more

This secret Nick Bosa can’t hide from the 49ers and their fans

first_imgNick Bosa, whom the 49ers made the second selection in the recent NFL draft, did a fine job ridding his Twitter account of his political persuasions and personal leanings, the better to ingratiate himself to his new team and their fans.Alas, there isn’t much he can do about official records and newspaper archives. From the May 6 edition of Sports Illustrated: “The 49ers’ new first-rounder comes from a long line of NFL players, but the most remarkable thing about Nick Bosa’s family tree is …last_img

Colon, Mets Beat Phils, 7-4

first_imgPHILADELPHIA — Bartolo Colon is getting better with age.Colon became the first pitcher in the majors with six wins, and Curtis Granderson hit a two-run homer to lead the New York Mets over the Philadelphia Phillies 7-4 on May 10.Colon (6-1) wasn’t quite as good as he’s been much of the season, but he was good enough to win again despite giving up a homer to opposing pitcher Chad Billingsley. The right-hander, who turns 42 this month, allowed four runs and eight hits with six strikeouts and no walks in six-plus innings.“You can’t say enough about him,” Mets Manager Terry Collins said. “At his age, it’s all about location. He works both sides of the plate, never gives a clean look. And he doesn’t walk anybody.”Colon extended his streak without a walk to 40 1-3 innings, pulling closer to the franchise record of 47 set by Bret Saberhagen in 1994. The 2005 AL Cy Young Award winner has 40 strikeouts and one walk this season, the best ratio in the big leagues.“I’m throwing a lot of strikes and attacking the zone,” Colon said through a translator. “(When I was younger) I was overthrowing, trying to throw 100 mph. I’m more of a complete pitcher now.”Daniel Murphy had three of New York’s season-high 14 hits. Pinch-hitter Johnny Monell delivered a two-run double for the Mets, who took two of three in Philadelphia and have won nine of 10 series against the Phillies since 2012.Jeurys Familia pitched a scoreless ninth for his NL-leading 13th save in as many opportunities. The final two outs were stellar defensive plays, first by Ruben Tejada at second base when he flipped the ball to first with his glove. Left fielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis then made a sliding catch against the wall in foul territory to end the game.“Not many guys would’ve made that catch,” Collins said.Billingsley (0-2), making his second start after missing two years due to a pair of right elbow operations, gave up five runs and eight hits in five-plus innings, raising his ERA to 9.00.The right-hander isn’t happy with the results, but is pleased with the progress he’s making in his comeback.“I had a little better control of my fastball,” he said. “I was more confident with my pitches, being able to locate. I felt good. Obviously, the results aren’t there. Go back to work and keep improving.”Billingsley launched Colon’s 0-2 pitch with one out in the third into the netting attached to the foul pole in left. It was the third career homer for Billingsley.New York tied it in the fourth on Wilmer Flores’ run-scoring single. After the Phillies took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half on Grady Sizemore’s RBI single, the Mets went in front for good in the fifth.Granderson drove a two-run homer into the seats in right, giving New York a 3-2 advantage. Flores and Nieuwenhuis both doubled and scored in the sixth to make it a three-run lead. The Phillies got a pair of runs back in the seventh on pinch-hit RBIs by Cesar Hernandez and Jeff Francoeur and had a chance to take the lead. But Ryan Howard grounded out with the bases loaded against reliever Alex Torres for the final out of the inning. The Mets went up 7-4 in the eighth on Monell’s double to right-center.(AARON BRACY) TweetPinShare0 Shareslast_img read more

Trans Tasman Tour Diary – 23 Jan

first_imgGive us a rundown of your day.My day started off well as Kez, Dean & Mock allowed us a bit of a sleep in. I then had brekky with the girls in one of our rooms. A bit after brekky, Bear and I went and got coffee together and had a bit of a walk to loosen the legs.We then had our team meeting where we watched the video of our first game against the Kiwi’s, then had a team chat to sort out a few things we needed to fix up for tonights game (game 2). After lunch with the girls, Bear and I met our cousins and auntie at a coffee for a quick catch up.I am now just about to get myself prepared and ready for our final team meeting before heading to the fields for game 2. We are ready to go.Did you bring anything with you to make it feel more like home?Yeah. I always like to bring some things away with me to remind me of home. Just a few special items that mean a lot to me as well as some cards, letters and special messages from special friends and family and the most important people in my life.Leading Australia for the first time, explain what was going through your head before the first game?I was feeling nervous before the first game but I usually am nervous before any game I play. But this game held a few more nerves as I just wanted to make sure we were all ready to go. I felt, and still do, a huge sense of pride about leading Australia and my team for the first time. It was a very humbling experience and even though it was overwhelming, my nerves were settled as the main thing going through my head before the game, was making sure the rest of the girls were ok, especially the new young ones making their debut for the Australian Women’s Open. After the retirement of key players, how have your new players gelled into the team?I could not be any prouder of the new girls in our team. They are all in their own special way, skilful and talented players, but I have been most impressed with the way they have handled themselves and the positive respectful attitude they have towards the past, the present and the future of the Australian Women’s Open team. Like me, I know all past players would be very proud of them all.Touch Football Australia would like to thank Louise for answering some questions to give the Touch Football community back home an update of what has been happening on the Tour.last_img read more
