Polk had a seven-year career in the NFL as a linebacker, including one season with the Cowboys (2008). He was a coaching intern with the Cowboys for a summer after his career ended. He served as the assistant special teams coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 2014-18.The move comes a day after the surprising news that Jerry Jones is not expected to extend the contract of head coach Jason Garrett. The oft-embattled Cowboys head coach’s contract ends after the 2019-2020 season. It is very rare for a coach to enter the final year of his deal without an extension.Polk joined the Cowboys as a player in 2008, after being drafted out of Nebraska by San Diego with the No. 112 overall pick of the 2001 NFL Draft. He is a member of the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, and was an All-American in 2000, and a two-time All-Big 12 player for the Huskers.Polk has served on the Chargers and Buccaneers staff in the same role since leaving Dallas.[ESPN]last_img read more
