Kolkata: The Metro authorities transferred the station master of Park Street Metro station and has decided to set up two extra entry-exit gates on the platform through which trains travel from Noapara to Kavi Subhas. The move, according to sources, comes after two major untoward incidents in Park Street within a period of one month.Last Tuesday, a girl commuter complained that the rake she was travelling in, started moving with her shoulder stuck outside the doors. Aatreyee Bhattacharya took to Twitter to narrate her ordeal. The Train Information Management System (TIMS) data of the Metro, however, revealed that the door in which she got stuck had remained open for seven extra seconds and the train started moving only after it was closed. People, while purchasing tickets, can see whether the train is in the platform and the tendency of rushing to catch the train is obvious. So we have decided to install two extra gates to facilitate passenger movement,” a source with the Metro authority said. It may be mentioned that on July 13, Sajal Kanjilal, a resident of Kasba, was killed while trying to board a Kavi Subhash-bound Metro train from Park Street station during busy office hours when the rake started moving with a portion of his body hanging outside the sliding doors. Apart from Park Street, station masters of Netaji and Kavi Subhas Metro stations have also been transferred.
