Video: Michigan Blocked 3 UCF Kicks In The 1st Quarter

first_imgUCF lining up for a field goal against MichiganTwitter/@the2ndsaulterThree Michigan blocked kicks helped the Wolverines jump out to a big lead early against UCF.Jim Harbaugh’s squad probably doesn’t need a huge effort in all three phases of the game to beat UCF, which finished without a win last year and is easing into former Oregon offensive coordinator Scott Frost’s new system. It is getting one, however.Michigan jumped out to a 24-0 lead in the first quarter, led by some impressive throws by quarterback Wilton Speight, and a phenomenal effort on special teams. In the first quarter, the Wolverines have blocked a Knights field goal and two punts. Video of the third Michigan blocked kicks, a 50-yard attempt by Matthew Wright, is available below.Great FG block by Michigan!#MichiganFootball— Nathan S. (@the2ndsaulter) September 10, 2016The first deflected punt went just 13 yards, the second wound up going 27 yards, and the field goal, blocked by defensive end Chris Wormley, was advanced 10 yards by the Wolverines.UCF managed to get off its third punt attempt and Caleb Houston had a 47 yard kick, but on the Knights’ following possession, Chase Winovich had a big strip sack of Justin Holman, recovered by Maurice Hurst. After that, a 49-yard punt by Houston was returned 35 yards by Jabrill Peppers, to the Michigan 12 yard line. Jake Butt caught a touchdown pass from Speight three plays later to push the lead to 31-0, after the extra point. On the bright side for the Knights, they just scored on an impressive 87-yard end around by Adrian Killins to make it 31-7. Still, it looks like this is going to be a long day in The Big House.Michigan is 1-0 after beating Hawaii last week. 2-0 looks pretty inevitable as of this point. UCF is also 1-0, after a Week 1 win over FCS squad South Carolina State, 38-0. The Knights will face another Big Ten squad next weekend, albeit a far more beatable one, when Maryland heads to Orlando.last_img read more
